3rd Grade, Mrs. Davis

It is an honor for me to be on the staff at Columbian Elementary School and a pleasure to teach the dynamic third grade.  The collaboration between writing, reading, skills, math, social studies and science allow students to discover and show creativity while learning.  The students are extremely excited about the new curriculum framework for science which is Investing Electrical Systems.  Each module begins with a lesson called “Doing Science” where students use tools, keep records, develop explanations, share ideas, ask questions and investigate.  In the lesson called “Doing Technology” the students design a solution, carry out the solution, evaluate the solution, share results, identify a problem and get ideas to solve the problem.  They enjoy working in teams of three while utilizing team skills and sharing the roles of materials manager, tracker, and messenger.  The learners are given hands-on opportunities to make a circuit as they engage, explore, explain, elaborate, and evaluate.  They experience the real life of scientists and engineers.  The third grade students are awesome to teach because they are energetic, motivated and eager to take on new challenges.
