LET'S MAKE MUSIC!
This is an exciting year for the music program here at Columbian! See what each class is currently learning below:
ECE: We are learning songs that are fun to sing and move to. This begins a foundation for concepts that will be learned in Kindergarten. Right now our focus is on how to play together in groups and having fun!
Kindergarten, 1st & 2nd Grades: We are learning the beginning level concepts of Steady Beat, Rhythm, Ostinato and Melody. Right now, our favorite part has been the musical "petting zoo" that we get to play with every-other class. The students learn about and play various musical instruments. Our goal this year is to learn how to read music.
3rd, 4th & 5th Grades: In the intermediate elementary classes, we are learning about Tempo, advanced Rhythms, Melody and Rounds (leading into Harmony). Later this year, we will be focusing on learning to play the Recorder, Piano, and various percussion instruments. We will also explore units focusing on Music History and Culture.
Keep an eye on this page for upcoming student work, and website music resources for out-of-classroom learning.
Feel free to come by and visit me in Room #117 (but you have to participate in our activities!).
Columbian would like to thank the VH1 Save the Music Foundation for our new piano lab (2006) and the DPS Foundation for donating funds toward the expansion of our ORFF Instrumentarium (2008).
