Brenna Brooks-Larson

This is my second year teaching third grade at Columbian. It gives me great pleasure to work with our dedicated staff, students and community. I teach ELA-S writing, reading and math. I team teach with Mrs. Davis who teaches writing, reading, social studies and science.

We write every day in school and at home. In third grade we have the opportunity to publish school visitor guides, poems, fictional stories and nonfiction research reports. We incorporate writing in other subject areas as well, including math, social studies and science.

Reading is important to us in third grade. Our classroom library is a cozy space where students can enjoy a book that is just right for them. Every day in reading students are invited to read a book, write a book response or book review for the book, and take a quiz on the computer using the Accelerated Reader program. This program tests their reading comprehension and gets kids motivated and excited to read and enjoy books!

In third grade math we perfect our skills in addition, subtraction, money, telling time and geometry, while learning new skills such as fractions, multiplication and division. The students enjoy math because every day they play math games which help them perfect their skills.

I truly enjoy teaching third grade because the students are excited to learn new things and to challenge themselves.
