The Early Childhood Education classroom teaches children many academic and social skills through play. Our literacy and math curriculum is based on center based play. This creates situations where the children are exposed to many aspects of literacy, math, science, and social studies without pressure to “perform”. We encourage the children to use their fine motor skills in painting, drawing, gluing, etc so when they begin to understand the concept of print, they will also be able to create letters and words themselves. We also encourage the children to tell stories and explain their play so when they are ready to write, they understand how a story is told. We accomplish all of this through our play!
