Multi-Intensive Special Education, Ms. Peterson |
|
Once again, it is my privilege and my joy to teach the students in Room 106, the Multi-Intensive (MI)-Primary classroom. And I am delighted and very fortunate to have the 2 best paraprofessionals again this year, Mrs. Ada and Ms. Cheryl. We’re also getting a 3rd para this year – Ms. Kaeley – and we can’t wait for her to join us!
Some of my students were in my class last year, but we also have many new faces! We’ve started the year with establishing rituals and routines and learning about Columbian’s PAWS program. We are continuing to use the Fundations Program for literacy, Avenues for oral language development, and Hands-On Standards Math. These programs are supplemented with a variety of other materials. In addition to literacy and math, we will address science, social studies, character education, social skills, daily living skills, arts and crafts, holiday projects and music and movement. We will have a different theme every 6 weeks or so; this year’s topics include Seasons and Weather, Mountains, Pets, The Desert, Our Five Senses, and Safety. We still have our classroom pet turtle, Shellby, and each week a different student has the job of spraying her with water and feeding her a BIG, LIVE worm each morning!
There will be field trips again this year, including the Boy Scouts Special Needs Program activities, the Stock Show, the Zoo, and trips related to our themes. We would love to have some parent or grandparent volunteers join us for these enriching (and fun!) events!! Check your children’s backpacks regularly for ongoing information.
We are looking forward to a wonderful year – we hope you are, too!
