Letter from the Principal |

Dear Columbian Families,
I am so happy to continue in my role as Principal at Columbian Elementary School. I believe that we have a genuine, caring staff and we have some of the most wonderful students in all of Denver Public Schools! Our staff and our students are committed working hard in order to attain high achievement and academic growth! In a sense, we have pledged to “get on the bus”… and our destination is success! Over the summer some things changed in our building. We moved some teachers into new classrooms and we welcomed some new staff. After hearing suggestions from our parents last year, and to help ensure safety, we have implemented a uniform policy for students and also have altered our dismissal procedures. We will do everything we can to make Columbian a safe and wonderful place to be! As always, it is Columbian’s goal to improve student achievement by providing rigorous instruction with modifications as needed. To ensure the success of each student we will analyze student data regularly and monitor daily performance in the classrooms. We will continue to support the needs of every individual learner. This year we have the benefit of an intervention teacher to provide additional small group instruction. Through a significant Lights on After School grant, we can continue to offer a variety of after school programs designed to enhance achievement, provide enrichment activities and bring families together. I look forward to frequent and open communication between classrooms and home and office and home. It is so important that our students know we are all working as partners, for their benefit. You will receive regular notices from teachers about your child’s class. I will also send a letter each month to update you on happenings and keep you apprised of “Big News.” Many events, including Family Nights, Assemblies, PTO meetings and Monday Morning Coffees are noted on our Family Calendar, but if you have more questions please call the office. Know that at any time, you are welcome to come to visit! I am anxious to meet with you and hear your ideas about our school. And now… we are off on our journey – and we invite you to join us! Remember – Destination Success! Very Sincerely, Mrs. Deborah Tu-Tygrs
