For the past few years, Columbian has been developing our community garden to help teach our students the value of sustainability, environmental stewardship, and conservation of resources. Through these experiences, students explore concepts within science, math, social studies, literacy, and the arts in an effort to converge their knowledge and skills from the classroom and apply to real-world application(s).
To help in this endeavor, we have partnered with UrbiCulture and other local non-profit organizations to bring new experiences to our school. To aid in managing this collaborative effort, Columbian faculty members and students have formed an annual “garden club” that oversees maintenance of the garden, the weekly farmer’s market, and fostering additional educational experiences for the student body at-large. Look for information about summer experiences with our garden club as we approach the end of the school year.
