The mission of the Columbian Library is to provide students with the necessary skills to locate, evaluate and effectively use needed information. It is our mission to provide our students with the opportunity to become life-long learners as well as master literacy.
Library Information On the Net (LION)- We have access to online resources in addition to the variety of materials we have in our media center. To access these online resources, go to the LION link below. Just click on the picture of the LION. Here you will find links to search the Columbian library catalog for books and materials as well as links to online databases, World Book encyclopedia, and ACLIN.
We are in our third year of the Accelerated Reader program. This program provides a wonderful incentive for all readers to progress and read more. Students read and test at their own independent level so all students can progress and feel confident about their success. All of the books in the library are color coded with specific reading levels. Students know exactly which level they are in through a reading test at the beginning of the year. Students read a book, take a test on the computer and receive their score immediately after. The program was so successful last year. Our students read more that 6,000 books!
We have a reading corner in our library… the Bronco Corner! We received a wonderful grant and now have a beautiful table and four chairs, 15 stadium seats, $5,000.00 in new books, a poster of Bronco mascot, Miles, and two wooden book bins for our new collection. Please come and visit this popular area of our library.
